Child & Adolescent Autism Spectrum Assessment

Autism Spectrum Assessment

Northshore Kidspace offers Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)

What is ADOS-2?

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction, and play (or imaginative use of materials) for individuals who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The ADOS consists of four modules, each of which is appropriate for children and adults of differing developmental and language levels, ranging from nonverbal to verbally-fluent.

How is the assessment conducted?

Structured and semi structured tasks are completed that involve social interaction between the examiner and the person being assessed. Depending on the clients language ability it may involve the presence of a familiar carer. The assessment is conducted by our qualified Speech Pathologist

How long will the assessment take?

The ADOS-2 typically consists of 45-60 minutes of direct observation with the person being assessed and a further 20-30 minutes spent collecting a short case history.

All up, our Speech Pathologist will spend 5-hours or more carrying out interviews, making observations, scoring, interpreting results, and compiling a final report.

What will I receive?

Following the ADOS-2 you will receive a summary of the results for you to take back to your referring Pediatrician, Psychiatrist or Psychologist for consideration of an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. This Assessment alone will not provide you with an Autism Diagnosis. It will be considered a crucial component in the overall information gathering of your referring specialist.

What will the cost be?

The short background interview, ADOS-2 observation assessment and summary report will cost $990

Will I need a referral?

A referral is not required. However, we usually find that a teacher, GP, Speech Pathologist, or Paediatrician will refer someone for Autism Spectrum Disorder assessment. As this assessment will not result in an Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis, you will need to take the results to a Psychologist or Peadiatrician for a definitive diagnosis.

Why choose Northshore Kidspace for an ADOS assessment?

When it comes to Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis, both private and government funded assessment services can be quite lengthy (in excess of 12 months). Being a private assessment service, we typically can see you with minimal delay, providing the results to your referring clinician whom is able to consider potential diagnosis sooner.

Unfortunately we do not have capacity to accept testing referrals at this time. Apologies for the inconvenience.
